Hypnotherapy and the Stress Bucket

In today’s fast-paced world, stress has become an unavoidable part of life for many people, from the demands of work to personal challenges, it is easy to feel overwhelmed.  But what if there was a way not just to manage stress, but to conquer it?  Solution-focused hypnotherapy is a powerful tool that can help unlock your potential, leading to a more fulfilling life.

Understanding the stress bucket:  Imagine your mind as a bucket collecting drops of stress from various sources throughout the day.  These drops can come from deadlines at work, conflict in relationships, financial worries, or even negative self-talk.  Over time, if these stressors aren’t effectively managed or released, the bucket begins to overflow, leading to feelings of overwhelm, anxiety, depression, and exhaustion.

Five benefits of Solution-focused hypnotherapy that can help you empty your stress bucket:

  1. Stress reduction: By accessing the subconscious mind through hypnosis, solution-focused hypnotherapy helps identify and release underlying stressors.  This can lead to a profound sense of relaxation and calm, allowing you to navigate life’s challenges with ease.
  2. Increase confidence: Hypnotherapy can help reprogram negative thought patterns and beliefs, empowering you to embrace your strengths and capabilities.   As your confidence grows, you will find yourself tackling obstacles with a newfound sense of assurance.
  3. Improve sleep quality: Chronic stress often disrupts sleep patterns, leaving you feeling tired and unfocused throughout the day.  Solution-focused hypnotherapy can promote deep, restorative sleep by calming the mind and body, leading to more energy and vitality.
  4. Enhanced focus and clarity: When your mind is cluttered with stress, it’s challenging to concentrate on tasks or make clear decisions.  Hypnotherapy helps to quiet the noise, allowing you to sharpen your focus and gain clarity on your goals and priorities.
  5. Emotional balance: Unresolved stress can manifest as a rollercoaster of emotions, ranging from irritability to sadness.  By addressing the root cause of your stress through hypnotherapy, you can achieve greater emotional balance and resilience, enabling you to respond to life’s ups and downs with grace.

Whether you are struggling with anxiety, seeking personal growth, or simply looking to optimise your well-being, solution-focused hypnotherapy offers a holistic approach to healing.  Take the first step towards transformation today and discover the possibilities that await you.

Don’t let stress hold you back from living the life you deserve, your journey to a happier, healthier you starts now.

Hypnotherapy and feeling overwhelmed: Finding your inner calm

In today’s fast-paced world, it’s not uncommon to feel overwhelmed by the constant demands and pressures of everyday life.  Whether it is the never-ending to-do list, the mounting stress at work, or personal challenges, the feeling of overwhelm can quickly take hold and leave us feeling helpless.

When we find ourselves in such a state, it is essential to take a step back and find ways to regain control over our thoughts and emotions.  One powerful tool that can assist in this process is hypnosis. Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis is not a form of mind control but a therapeutic technique that can help us tap into our subconscious mind to better manage our emotions.

Hypnosis works by inducing a deep state of relaxation and focused attention to achieve a heightened awareness, allowing the conscious mind to step aside and the subconscious mind to take over.  In this state, the subconscious mind becomes more receptive to positive suggestions and can help reframe negative thoughts and beliefs.  Through hypnosis, we can address the root causes of our overwhelm, reprogram the mind developing healthier habits and setting boundaries so you are able to cope with those feelings of stress and anxiety and find your inner calm.

By accessing your subconscious mind, you can strengthen your motivation and commitment to self-care practices, such as regular exercise, healthy eating and improved sleep patterns.  Additionally, hypnotherapy can help you to establish clear boundaries in your personal and professional life enabling you to prioritise your well-being.

Hypnotherapy induces a deep state of relaxation, allowing your mind and body to unwind and let go of tension.   Through guided imagery and progressive muscle relaxation you’ll distance yourself from what’s causing these feelings and gain a fresh perspective taking back control so you are able to feel more focused and productive.

When life gets too much its easy to not prioritise ourselves and fall in to survival mode which can be very difficult to get out of on your own.  So if you are feeling overwhelmed hypnotherapy can be a valuable tool in reducing stress and promoting overall well-being.

Hypnotherapy and SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder)

As the seasons change and we move into winter SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) can impact many people.  SAD is known as winter depression however some people may suffer during the summer months too.  Symptoms can include:

  • Anxiety
  • Changes in appetite
  • Irritability
  • Lack of concentration
  • Low libido
  • Low mood
  • Not wanting to see anyone
  • Problems with sleep

SAD is linked to reduced sunlight during the autumn and winter months, that lack of sunlight has an affect on part of the brain called the hypothalamus.  This can prevent:

  • The production of serotonin: A hormone that affects your mood, appetite and sleep.
  • The production of melatonin: This hormone makes you sleepy, levels are often higher in people who suffer with SAD.
  • Genetics:  Research has shown that people who suffer from SAD disorder have relatives who have the same condition.

There are some things you can try yourself to help with SAD symptoms. Even if you don’t have SAD, these self care tips can help you to look after yourself during the winter months.

  1. Exercise:  Getting as much natural light as possible.  Walking outside can help increase endorphins such as serotonin and dopamine making us feel good reducing stress and depression.
  2. Eat well: Eating a healthy well balanced diet and drinking plenty of water ensures that your brain is getting everything it needs to keep you energised and healthy.   Try to avoid sugar, processed foods and alcohol which can increase symptoms that can make you feel worse.
  3. Regulate sleep patterns:  By following a consistent schedule can improve the quality of your sleep, try to do your best to go to sleep and wake up at the same time every day.  Avoid taking long naps as this may make you feel worse.
  4. Relationships: Avoid isolation.  Spend time with positive and supportive loved ones who can hep you through these hard periods.

Hypnotherapy can also benefit you if you are suffering from SAD as it increases the production of serotonin in the brain.  In a very short time it will help you create a more positive outlook, change patterns of behaviour replacing negative beliefs with positive ones.

It can also help reduce stress and anxiety making it easier for you to cope with emotions and challenges of the season, bringing a sense of calm, confidence and self-esteem.  Because SAD can so often disrupt sleep, hypnosis can hep you regulate your sleep pattern enabling you to cope better in your everyday life increasing positivity, motivation and confidence.

Hypnotherapy and the Menopause

Menopause is something that can affect nearly EVERYONE! Either because they are female and their bodies will undergo this change or because they are related, close, live with or work with a female who will undergo this change.

Menopause is actually only one day in a woman’s life before this day and potentially for many years before she is peri-menopausal.  During the peri-menopausal years a woman’s oestrogen and progesterone levels fluctuate and when these hormones are out of whack, the body can go haywire both physically and emotionally.  Even after the menopause symptoms are still very common affecting more than three-quarters of post-menopausal women.

A symptom associated with the menopause are hot flashes however these can be the most manageable as they are expected.  What a lot of people are completely unaware of and which comes as a bit of a surprise is ANXIETY and just to throw in a few more gems there’s panic attacks, weight gain, low mood, exhaustion, brain fog, depression, insomnia, lack of confidence, low libido, aching limbs and joints.

Other glorious symptoms include heart palpitations, irritability, hair loss, memory loss, dizziness, incontinence and bloating.  The list is seemingly endless and therefore the menopause can be quite a tough ride for all concerned!

The prescribing of hormone replacement therapy is still considered controversial and many women opt not to choose HRT for health and personal reasons.  Even on HRT women often still struggle with their symptoms.

Clinical hypnotherapy has been shown to be effective in reducing many of the symptoms of the menopause and can support you to gain control of your body and emotions.

Hypnotherapy and IBS

Uncomfortable and debilitating an estimated 10 to 20% of the population in the UK are suffering from IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).

IBS can prevent people from carrying out simple tasks such as long car journeys, avoiding public transport, attending social events and causing discomfort on a regular basis.

Because of cultural taboo surrounding toilet habits it’s a subject that not many people want to discuss and so IBS not only creates physical discomfort but emotional too.

By messages between the brain and gut becoming disrupted this then creates issues within the digestive track leading to pain, bloating and bowel changes.  It is also known that high levels of stress increase symptoms further impacting the lives of those who suffer.

As well as medication cutting out dairy, gluten, spices, trying supplements can also be an option.  With IBS patients often struggling with a range of treatments, finding a consistently effective approach can be challenging.

There is growing evidence supporting the efficacy of hypnosis for patients suffering with IBS.  With solution focused hypnotherapy keeping up to date with the latest research in neuroscience its effectiveness against both standard and psychological treatments is potential as a go-to solution.

By the use of suggestion, imagery techniques and progressive relaxation hypnotherapy guides the client into a sense of calm soothing their symptoms restoring the gut brain communication and improving overall well-being.  The power of the mind is truly limitless.

Hypnotherapy for Childhood Mental Health

Children and adolescent mental health services are under increased strain and with long waiting lists and the lack of correct signposting parents are often left frustrated and confused in the search for getting help for their child, often unaware about different therapy options that are available.  It is now becoming more common for children under the age of 18 to be prescribed anti-depressants and referred to mental health apps with numbers soaring after COVID-19.

NICE guidelines state that anti-depressants should not be prescribed to children under the age of 18 unless they are in regular talking therapy and under the care of the psychiatrist.   Unfortunately, this is often not the case and as children continue to sit on waiting lists their mental health deteriorates.

Hypnotherapy is recognised by the National Health Service (NHS) and the Professional Standards Authority (the UK Parliamentary regulator for healthcare) as a treatment option to help children overcome many long-term conditions.  The National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH) also agree with the NHS that “early interventions are crucial for ensuring the best possible outcome for children.”

By the use of hypnotherapy, children and adolescents can change habits, gain focus and attention as well as improving physical symptoms.  By creating new pathways and learning new skills hypnotherapy is a scientifically proven therapy helping your child’s brain to rewire and start to figure out how to achieve their goal.   Hypnosis provides a focused attention and therefore your child has the capability to respond to suggestions.  It is important to understand that during hypnosis your child will be aware of what is going on and cannot be made to do anything that they do not want to do.

Issues that can benefit from hypnosis are:

  • Anger
  • Anxiety
  • Allergies
  • Depression
  • Nail biting
  • Bedwetting
  • Behaviour issues
  • Body image
  • Eczema and psoriasis
  • Grief and loss
  • Headaches
  • Motivation
  • Pain Management
  • School/sports performance
  • Exam related stress
  • Sleep issues
  • Social anxiety
  • OCD
  • Fear of the dark and other phobias

The number of sessions will vary from child to child often benefits can be seen in a relatively short time frame.  By listening to the child and engaging their imagination in a supported safe environment they are able to make long term change.

Welcome to my new website

I am delighted to launch my new website offering Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) in person at premises in both Bolton and Ramsbottom, Greater Manchester.   I also offer online appointments via zoom for clients across the UK and further afield.

SFH can help with a wide range of issues you would like to change in your life in a relatively short period of time, from getting better sleep to low mood from relaxation to improved confidence.   With a keen interest in stress, anxiety and PTSD.  I also offer various programmes and workshops for the menopause, weight management and relaxation.

Unlike most other therapies SFH focuses on the solution and not the problem, rather than ruminating over what has happened and what hasn’t worked clients are helped to identify what their lives would look and feel like by bringing about positive change.

So often we are tackling or ignoring how we are feeling creating inner conflict which can then affect a large number of other aspects of our life.  Moving away from negative language and encouraging positive solution language we focus on the what’s been good. By setting achievable goals you then begin to work towards the solutions by finding out what works for you as you are best placed to identify your preferred future.

By making positive changes this then increases your self-confidence, self-esteem and motivation which has a profound impact on improving your coping ability.  By making these changes it enables you to move forward positively by focusing on the present and future where your problem doesn’t exist.  You are then able to gain control, enjoy your life and accomplish your personal goals quickly and with long term results. What is it that Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help you with?
